Introduction of Digital Monitoring System in Balochistan- A Way to Bridge the Gap in Governance

The Government of Balochistan has recently announced the introduction of the Digital Monitoring System to enhance transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness in Balochistan development projects. Penning on a similar notion, Nathan Gardels, in his book ‘Intelligence Governance for the 21st century’ asserted that digitalisation will help to improve the governance crises of a country. As the province of Balochistan has witnessed unparalleled development over the years, the incumbent government is carrying out proactive steps for improving the socio -economic conditions of the people. The Provincial government has introduced ‘Balochistan Development Initiatives 2025’, which includes educational scholarship, Youth Employment Policy, Solarisation of Tubewells, Electric Scooty Scheme, Green Tractor Scheme, Balochistan Health Programme, etc. In order to enhance the efficiency of these projects, the provincial government has announced the introduction of a digitalised monitoring system to connect the live location of the officers with their respective fields.
This is a significant step in bridging the governance gaps in the development projects of Balochistan, as digitalisation will ensure the attendance of the officers in their respective fields. The on-site presence of officers at the working site will improve the efficiency of the work and reduce the administrative delays in the projects. Secondly, the introduction of the digitalisation monitoring mechanism will help to trace the progress on the projects, which means that the effectiveness and efficiency of the projects will be properly and timely managed. Thirdly, not only will the efficiency be maintained, but digitalisation will also help to assess the budget allocation and ghost beneficiaries of the project as well. In addition to this, the digitalisation mechanism will not only assess the progress of these developmental projects but it will help to integrate the data and bring the out of reach people with in these development project which ultimately aid in bridging the gaps in the governance of the Balochistan. Indubitably, the province had witnessed corruption in the dispersal of development, this step by the provincial government will help to reduce the corruption and increase transparency in these development projects. This Digital Monitoring Mechanism will trace how and where resources are to be used and where they have been used. Therefore, it will add accountability in the developmental projects.
In conclusion, it can be argued that the digital monitoring mechanism is an effort by the government to enhance the working efficiency of the Balochistan Development Initiative. Without transparency and accountability, the real essence of this developmental project cannot be attained, as the mandate of this initiative is to deliver and upgrade the people of Balochistan.
