A major step towards stronger governance and improved public services is underway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as the Area Development Secretariat (ADS) takes charge of the administrative framework for 12 designated districts.
Following the imposition of an emergency on October 11, 2026, this initiative marks a significant restructuring of administrative arrangements for the region, aimed at strengthening coordination, accelerating development and improving service delivery.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has approved the transfer of administrative control of former FATA directorates and key institutions to the ADS. The restructuring brings together essential sectors, including education, agriculture, irrigation, forestry, social welfare, local government, industries, minerals, information and law and order, under a dedicated administrative framework.
To strengthen its operational capacity, 30 officers from BS-17 to BS-20 have temporarily been transferred to the ADS, including five special secretaries, ten deputy secretaries and fifteen section officers, alongside supporting staff.
The establishment of an Office of the Chief Police Officer for the 12 districts further strengthens the institutional framework for security administration and coordination.
The transfer of institutional responsibilities, records, assets and resources is designed to streamline decision-making, clarify administrative roles and improve coordination between civilian and security institutions, while maintaining continuity in public services.
At its heart, the ADS initiative represents a focused effort to accelerate development, improve access to essential facilities and address longstanding public grievances. By bringing administrative functions under a dedicated framework, the initiative aims to create a more coordinated approach to governance and development across the designated districts.
ADS stands as a significant step towards better governance, stronger institutions, improved public services and sustainable development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
