Recent international advocacy campaigns and political seminars organized in foreign venues raise sweeping allegations concerning enforced disappearances, human rights violations, resource exploitation, and military operations in Balochistan. However, a serious assessment requires distinguishing rhetoric from documented facts through court records, official investigations, and independently verifiable evidence. Every missing-person case deserves due process, but every missing person cannot automatically be labeled as “forcibly disappeared.” Furthermore, dramatic figures tossed around during international conferences remain assertions until backed by verifiable evidence, because numbers without proof are not facts.
The genuine security challenge in Balochistan is driven by terrorist attacks targeting civilians, students, non-local laborers, and security personnel. While peaceful political expression is a fundamental constitutional right, violence and terrorism are crimes. Proscribed terrorist groups, including the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and ISIL-K, have carried out targeted attacks to undermine peace and stability. International reporting routinely documents the violent activities of BLA and affiliated terrorist outfits. Pakistan itself has suffered immeasurable loss of life from repeated terrorist attacks, and a country that has lost civilians, students, and security forces to terrorism cannot be reduced to a one-sided narrative of state violence.
The narrative accusing the state of “colonialism” or “looting” Balochistan’s resources ignores the province’s constitutional rights, political representation, and resource-sharing framework under the National Finance Commission. Millions of dollars in provincial and federal development spending continue to fund education, health, infrastructure, and regional connectivity. Misperceptions also extend to foreign trade mechanisms like the European Union’s GSP+ scheme. GSP+ is trade access, not military funding; it is a trade-preference mechanism tied to international commitments, and claims that Europe simply “ignores” human rights overlook the EU’s ongoing engagement with Pakistan on governance and legal standards.
Allegations of systematic state violence require concrete evidence, formal investigation, and specific attribution, rather than blanket accusations or historical comparisons designed to generate headlines. Documented cross-border terrorism, along with foreign terrorist sanctuaries, financing, and facilitation, remains a core security hurdle for the region. Ultimately, Pakistan’s approach relies on upholding the rule of law, protecting its citizens, and pursuing sustainable socio-economic growth. Balochistan needs solutions, not slogans; evidence, not allegations; development, not destruction; and the rule of law, not terrorism.
